Definition

Link equity (or "link juice") is the ranking value transferred through a hyperlink. The originating page's authority, the link's position on the page, and the number of other outbound links all influence how much equity flows through.

Key points

• A link from a page with 100 outbound links passes less equity than one with 5.
• Internal links also pass equity — use them deliberately.
• 301 redirects pass most (but not all) link equity.
