How is the backlink ROI calculated?

This calculator combines five proven SEO and conversion models into a single estimate. Here is the simplified formula behind each output:

Estimated position uplift

A link from a page with DR 60+ typically moves a mid-page result up by 3-5 positions, depending on the linking page's own organic traffic and topical relevance. The formula factors DR weight, page traffic (a proxy for authority), and a diminishing-returns curve as your current position approaches #1.

Traffic gain from new position

We use the industry-standard SERP click-through-rate (CTR) curve: position 1 captures roughly 32% of clicks, position 2 around 17%, position 3 around 11%, and so on down to under 2% by position 10. Multiplying the delta in CTR by your target keyword's search volume yields incremental monthly traffic.

Monthly revenue impact

Incremental visitors × your conversion rate × your average order value = monthly revenue gain. We deliberately keep this conservative — most pages also rank for long-tail variants, which means the real number is usually 1.5x to 3x higher.

Why CPC matters

The cost-per-click reveals what your competitors are willing to pay for one paid click. If they pay $3 for a click, your organic traffic from this link is worth at least the same. Many SEOs use the formula traffic × CPC = traffic value as a sanity check.

How to use this backlink ROI calculator

When is a backlink NOT worth it?

Even a high-DR link can be a bad investment. Avoid links when:

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this calculator?

Within ±30% for most niches. The exact lift depends on Google's algorithm state, content quality, and competitor reactions. We deliberately keep estimates conservative so the verdict errs on the safe side.

Does this work for guest posts and niche edits?

Yes. The math is the same whether you build the link via guest post, niche edit, HARO, or our exchange platform. Just plug in the actual cost (or your time value for exchanges).

What about brand awareness and referral traffic?

Not counted in this model. Brand and direct referral clicks are bonus upside on top of the SEO ranking gain. Real ROI is usually higher than the calculator shows.
