DoFollow vs NoFollow

Two ways links pass (or withhold) ranking signals.

Definition

A DoFollow link passes PageRank and topical relevance to the target page. A NoFollow link (rel="nofollow") tells search engines not to count it as an endorsement. In 2019 Google reclassified NoFollow as a "hint" rather than a hard directive, so NoFollow links can still influence rankings.
